Social Issues Book Club Summative Project

The text changed the way I look at the perspectives of the four main characters. Naheed's perspective was on her religion. She was scared people would make fun of her. Will's perspective is more on his friendship with Claire and the death of his father. Aimee's perspective is on calling her mom, who is in New York, and telling her about what happened with her friends. Sergio's perspective is based on what happened on the subway incident where he helped a man that banged his head.

The text shaped the way I act in daily life because I understand what is going through the minds of some people. In the trailer, You can see a girl with a hijab on called Naheed. She faces challenges every day. She is scared that people might make fun of her religion, or hurt her. This is also similar in the book Shooting Kabul. Fadi gets bullied because of his race and what happened on 9/11. The text also makes me think about the challenges people might face everyday. Will is sad about his father's death and about his friendships. Sergio faces a challenges with his dad and grandma.

It is important to be changed by what we read because it can change our perspective on things and it can change how we act.  It changed me because I understand the challenges that kids can face. Another reason that it is important to change when you read is because you can gain more knowledge about the world around us. You can also spread awareness about the issue.

Character Summative Project Blog Post Refelction

In the character unit, I have learned many different things. Character traits are very important to know. They help you understand your book and your characters even better. I am going to be showing you all the things that I've learned throughout this unit.

The things I have learnt in this unit are: secondary characters, character motivations, and the internal and external conflicts they have. In the movie trailer, we used character motivations, and external and internal conflicts.

To learn to focus on the characters, I wrote claims with evidence about the characters and I also took notes on the different aspects. This helped me to learn because it opened up to more deep thinking.
It also changed the way I saw characters. I would think about the character's pressures, instead of thinking about nothing.

It's important to learn about characters because it can help you take better notes, and also help you write better. I know this because it relates to any character, and you can use it for many years to come because you can't grow out of these aspects.

Fall Conferences

I am most proud of using author's craft moves. The crafts help my personal narratives, and looking at books in many different ways. There are so many craft moves you can use in your stories. This skill is important because it can help you improve you writing in general. It makes your stories stand out like books written by famous authors. This is a skill used for speeches, different genres of writing, and for leads to catch your audiences attention. This is my artifact:

I have grown as a writer in making leads. I can choose from 3 leads. This will help me get a bigger audience of readers that want to read on. Leads will also help the reader understand what the topic is about. My artifact:
To help me be successful, I need you to recommend me books, or give me tips that relate to ELA.
The reason I want you to do this is because; in order to be successful, it takes time, and you can help speed up this process. You can read stories out loud to get me thinking of lasting impression, internal and external conflicts, secondary and main characters, themes and author's craft moves.

My goal moving forward this year is to read more books. I want to increase my stamina, so I  can read more books in a month. I can learn new thing that might benefit me too. Hopefully by reading more books, I can get faster at reading along with stamina. This will help me finish even more books. I think this is a good goal because this will help me help me in many situations when I need to finish something like 100 pages a day, or doing research on a topic for science or social studies.

Using My Laptop

Laptop Bootcamp Reflection

In laptop bootcamp, we learned a lot bout the safety and responsibilities of having and using a laptop. I didn't know a lot of the things that the bootcamp helped me with, I hope you can learn from this too.
What I use to think was that the laptops could sustain a little water, and that they were pretty rough, but I was wrong...

TRUE STORY: A bottle of water had condensation on it, and a water droplet went onto a laptop's keyboard and it all shut down. Water is deadly to laptops.
Another true story: A single piece of paper was stuck in between a laptop. After she put it in her bag, the pressure was too much for the laptop screen, and it shattered/ broke. There are so many things you need to be aware of when using a laptop. Small little things could damage it.
Another thing you need to be aware of is how to hold the laptop safely. Remember to zip up the laptop case before carrying it. If not, then it's probably going to slip out and crash on the floor.
Ways you can carry it are holding it like a suitcase, or holding it with two hands to your chest.

This has changed my way of seeing the safety of laptops and impacted my future. You need to be aware of the dangers, so you can prevent them. Hopefully, you can learn form these things, and prevent the accidents from happening.
